Today was the drive from Portland to Newport. We went out of our way (far out of our way) so that we could stop at Haystack Rock, at Cannon Beach. It was worth the detour.
The rock itself is jutting out of the beach just offshore. Depending on the state of the tides, you can get pretty darn close to the thing. You are not allowed to climb it.
The first picture is of Haystack Rock itself. The other two show a couple smaller neighbors. You can see in the third shot that the tide is coming in. I had to grab gear and back up a couple times between picture #2 and picture #3.
